A 27-year-old mother has gone viral after sharing a heartbreaking confession: she returned from a dream vacation abroad feeling completely disconnected from her 3-year-old daughter.

In a raw and deeply personal account, she revealed that during her 10-day trip with her brother, she experienced something she’d never felt before — pure happiness without her child.

‘I don’t feel resentment or anger,’ she wrote. ‘I just feel zero attachment and don’t want to be around her right now.’

Before the trip, she described herself as doting — holding her daughter through naps, taking her on daily adventures, teaching her to find bugs in the mud. But now, simple moments of motherhood leave her anxious and empty.

Her past is marked by trauma. From ages 17 to 25, she endured an abusive relationship that ended when her partner was imprisoned. She became a mother at 27 and spent years rebuilding her life through therapy and peaceful coparenting.

Yet the vacation changed everything.

‘For the first time ever, I experienced life happy and simultaneously without a child,’ she said. ‘I had never known what it felt like to be alone and content until this trip.’

Since returning, her daughter has regressed — suffering daily tantrums and fabricating injuries for attention. The child senses the shift, and so does she.

She’s reduced her parenting time from five days to three per week, leaning on screen time and distraction to cope. Her therapist supports the break, but the toll on her daughter is clear.

One commenter said, ‘Vacation is never the real world. You’re mourning an imaginary childfree life.’

Another argued, ‘This sounds like burnout — the numbness, the loss of interest. It’s a sign something needs to shift.’

But others were less forgiving.

‘Just because you aren’t feeling it doesn’t mean you get to stop being a parent,’ one wrote. ‘Love is a choice, not just a feeling.’

Another warned, ‘This feels alarming. You need a psychiatric referral — for your sake and hers.’

She’s asking for help — wondering if there’s more she can do, if different therapies might restore her bond with her daughter.

What would you do if the person you loved most stopped bringing you joy?
