Shyla was a dedicated nursing assistant living in Richmond, California, with deep family roots stretching to Alaska. She stepped onto the vessel, but she never stepped off in San Francisco.
When the ferry returned to Oakland at 9:17 AM, crew members realized Shyla was missing. A search by the Coast Guard led to the recovery of her body near Treasure Island. She was pronounced dead shortly after.
